The Spanish National Team debuts today in the Qatar 2022 World Cup in a first match against Costa Rica and both the players of ‘La Roja’ and the fans are already prepared to enjoy a different championship, not only because of the date on which it is held but also because of the irruption of augmented reality, the metaverse and Web 3.0 in the competition.

BeFootball AR Labs, BeFootball’s specialized area in augmented reality technologies, wanted to join the digitalization of the World Cup and has developed a webapp that does not require installation in collaboration with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which will allow players to carry their players in their pockets. Thanks to augmented reality and the scanning of some of the players, fans will be able to watch the matches in the company of Unai Simón, Marcos Llorente and Ansu Fati without the need for virtual reality glasses.

This project allows fans to have their photo taken with some of their favourite athletes in their hyper-realistic virtual versions. They will be able to choose between Ansu Fati, Asensio, Dani Olmo, Carlos Soler, Marcos Llorente, Koke, Pau Torres or goalkeepers David Raya and Unai Simón.

Thanks to the collaboration between BeFootball AR Labs and the RFEF, those who share in their social networks the photographs accompanied by #LaRojaConmigo will be entered into a draw to win four jerseys signed by the players of the national team.

BeFootball AR Labs makes ‘La Roja’ the first national team with augmented reality avatars, a milestone that brings the world of sports, and more specifically elite soccer, closer to the possibilities of creating unique experiences offered by the metaverse.
